Banner Navigation – Online Tutorial
This interactive, on-line tutorial provides users with basic skills for using Banner. Navigational features such as how to access forms, how to move between blocks and how to search for records are covered. This tutorial is recommended prior to attending Banner training classes.
Banner Student System (INB)
Internet Native Banner(INB) is an web-based delivery of Banner forms which allows the university to perform its administrative functions like Registration, view grades, class schedules, course catalog, review an audit of their degree progress as they plan for graduation, view transcripts including courses transferred from other institutions, request an official transcript.
Banner HR
This 3 hour course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, provides participants with information and basic level skills needed to use the Banner HR module. The course focuses on the most common Human Resources forms used to query employee & position information. This training is demonstration with hands on practice and exercise to help build key skills. If Banner is not used in the performance of their daily duties, participants should review the Banner Navigation Tutorial or Banner Navigation User Manual prior to training to receive the full benefit of the training.
Banner Finance – Procurement
This 8 hour course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, will familiarize participants with the Banner Finance module used to create purchase requisitions and electronically receive ordered product. The training will also familiarize participants with additional Banner forms that may be used to copy, cancel, delete, and query a requisition.. The course is taught in two – 4 hour classes that run on consecutive days to allow for optimal retention of knowledge and skills. This training is demonstration with hands-on practice and exercise to help develop key skills. Participants will create purchase requisitions and electronically receive an order in a training environment. If Banner is not used in the performance of their daily duties, participants should review the Banner Navigation Tutorial or Banner Navigation User Manual prior to training to receive the full benefit of the training.
Banner Finance Data Review
This 3 hour course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, will familiarize participants with the various options available in the Banner Finance module to research information on purchase orders and vendors, conduct general budget queries, look up chart of account FOAPAL hierarchies and codes, view grant related information, and search fixed or moveable asset records. This course will also familiarize participants with the Banner Self-Service Finance application to view budget, outstanding encumbrance information, and documentation on various financial transactions. This training is demonstration with hands-on practice and exercises in a “live” environment to help develop key skills. Participants must have access to the Banner Finance module and Banner Finance Self Service to receive the full benefit of the training, and are asked to bring a current Index number with them to class for use in practical exercises. If Banner is not used in the performance of their daily duties, participants should review the Banner Navigation Tutorial or Banner Navigation User Manual prior to training to receive the full benefit of the training.
Banner Research Accounting Systems Administration - Grant Set-Up
This 2 hour presentation facilitated by Sponsored Projects Accounting will review the grant set-up process of the System Administration side of Sponsored Projects Accounting. The presentation will review all of the information that is captured in Banner on a sponsored award and where the information is located in Banner. The presentation will also review Research Accounting System inquiry screens, e~Print reports, and COGNOS reports. The presentation will give a brief overview of the Facilities and Administrative rate and Cost Sharing and how this information is captured in Banner. Banner terminology is introduced.
Banner Research Accounting Monitoring and Billing
This 1 hour presentation facilitated by Sponsored Projects Accounting will introduce the Banner Research Accounting module and how it is used to monitor and bill sponsored awards. The presentation will review what information is captured in Banner and where it is captured in Banner. Banner forms are reviewed, the billing process is reviewed and additional Banner terminology is introduced. The presentation will review frequently used Banner inquiry screens, E-Print reports and related COGNOS reports.
Banner Research Accounting Receivable
This 1 hour presentation facilitated by Sponsored Projects Accounting will review what Accounts Receivable information is captured in Banner, where the information is captured in Banner and other systems and databases used for Accounts Receivable purposes. It will also discuss how Cost Sharing is calculated and recorded, the terming process of Grants and continues with Banner terminology. It also reviews Banner inquiry screens related to Accounts Receivable, E-Print reports and related COGNOS reports.
Cashnet
This one hour course, presented by NMSU Training and Development, demonstrates the process used by selected departments to electronically deposit funds with University Accounts Receivable department. The course is demonstration with a practical exercise. This course is presented on an “as needed” basis at the request of University Accounts Receivable department. Student Data Reporting - I (Cognos)
Cognos is NMSU's web based reporting tool. In this session you will learn how to run a report, exporting reports in multiple formats (HTML, Excel, PDF, CSV), scheduling and e-mailing reports, how to request a report, and many more details.
Understanding Student Data Reports - II (Cognos)
Understanding Student Data is a second level training that will be more in depth on the data in the existing reports. Users will be instructed on the available reports and their intended uses, and the vitality of prompts. Participants will also be refreshed on running a report with options, scheduling, and exporting to Excel.
Hiring Procedures I
This 4 hour course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, will familiarize participants with the policies, procedures, and documentation requirements for completing the hiring process and meet federal and local regulations. The main focus of the course is on regular (exempt, non-exempt, and faculty) positions. The use of NMSU’s electronic hiring system, Ehire, is covered through demonstration with hands-on practice and exercise to help build critical skills. If Banner is not used in the performance of their daily duties, participants should review the Banner Navigation Tutorial or Banner Navigation User Manual prior to training to receive the full benefit of the training. Those participants who also hire for pooled positions (temporary, supplemental, students, graduate assistants, and work-study) should also attend Hiring Procedures II .
Hiring Procedures II
This 4 hour supplemental course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, builds on the knowledge and skills learned during the Hiring Procedures course. The course includes discussion and demonstration of policies and procedures for hiring temporary, emergency hires, supplemental, graduate assistants, work-study and regular student employees. Participants must attend Hiring Procedures I prior to attend this course.
Monthly Budget Reconciliation and e~Print Overview
This 4 hour course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, will familiarize participants with a budget reconciliation process that can be used by departments to reconcile their monthly operating budgets. The course will take advantage of information tools in Banner to include Self-Service and e~Print reports. This course is designed for personnel that are responsible to reconcile departmental operating budgets. The training is demonstration with hands-on practice and exercise to help develop key skills.
Principle Investigator
This 1 hour demonstration course, presented by NMSU Training and Development, reviews the Banner Self-Service module and is specifically designed for personnel designated by the College/Department Business Manager as a Principle Investigator. This course is presented on an “as needed” basis at the request of the Business Managers. Contact NMSU Training & Development at 575-646-7444 to schedule Principle Investigator training.
Procurement Card Policies & Procedures
This 1 hour course, taught by NMSU Training & Development, covers the policies and procedures for being a procurement card holder. Resources and references are covered as well as what is/is not allowable for purchasing with the procurement card. This course is Mandatory for all new cardholders located in Las Cruces. Cardholders located outside of the Las Cruces area should call NMSU Training & Development at 575-646-7444 to schedule training.
Procurement Card System
This 1 ½ hour course, taught by NMSU Training & Development, covers the functional aspects of processing procurement card transactions within the PCard System. Also covered are resources and references to procurement card policies and procedures and record retention policies. This training is demonstration with hands-on practice in a training environment to help develop key skills. Prior knowledge of the PCard system is not required.
ShopCart
This 2 hour course, taught by NMSU Training and Development, will familiarize participants with ShopCart. ShopCart is a web-based application that is used to create a store front in order to sell products and services online. An additional third-party payment processor (CashNet) is used in order to process credit card transactions.
AFSCME Bargaining Agreement
The bargaining agreement between NMSU and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union applies to the majority of non-exempt NMSU employees. This 3.5 hour session, presented jointly by HR Services Employee & Management Services and AFSCME, will provide an overview of the articles of the agreement with an emphasis on the objectives of the parties to the Agreement and documents or procedures associated with the Agreement. Be Prepared to Lead
Different management situations demand different styles of leadership in order to get the job done, and different types of employees respond better to different methods of direction. Be Prepared to Lead, facilitated by HR Services Training and Development, explores four distinct management approaches, and provides participants an opportunity to assess their leadership style, discover which employees respond best to the different methods, and learn how to modify their natural approach. This 1.5 hour workshop, facilitated by the Employee Assistance Program department, will assist supervisors in developing a strategy for addressing difficult employee issues before they become huge problems and how to make a referral of an employee to the Employee Assistance Program. This 4 hour course, facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, defines the roles of coaches/leaders utilizing positive reinforcement, modeling expected behavior and effective listening skills development. The course helps supervisors and managers understand expectations that employees have of their leaders, realize the benefits of daily coaching and reinforcement of desired behaviors, and build more self-confident and effective employees who provide superior customer service to students, internal and external customers of NMSU. Dealing with Personnel Issues
Taking a proactive approach to improving employee performance and behavior is a key element of successful performance management. This interactive 2 hour course, facilitated by Employee & Management Services, looks at the University’s progressive disciplinary process and the Supervisor’s related responsibilities. It examines proactive approaches toward improving performance and behavior, reprimands, and as a last resort terminations and the appeal process. Evaluating Employee Performance
This 4 hour interactive course, facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, is designed to provide front line supervisors and management personnel with improved evaluation skills and a better understanding of the Performance Evaluation system and forms used at NMSU.
This course expands on one of the 6 steps of Performance Management, Evaluating Performance. Civitas Project: Creating a Civil and Responsible Workplace
This seminar is designed to create awareness and to begin a dialogue about what civil and responsible employees look like. This seminar will also demonstrate the institutional and human cost of uncivil behavior. Strategies to address uncivil behavior such as bullying, mobbing, rankism, and just plain rudeness will also be addressed. Customer Service
Top quality customer service is something that all of us want and expect, whether we're buying a car, purchasing office supplies, or asking another NMSU employee for help or information. During this 6 hour interactive course facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, we'll discuss how to communicate with different types of customers, the importance of providing good customer service, and how to handle difficult customers.

How to Receive a Performance Appraisal
All of us at NMSU receive an annual performance appraisal. The focus of this 2 hour session is to provide employees with tips on preparing for and receiving their annual performance appraisal. Discussions include tools to help the supervisor capture what you’ve done throughout the year, getting ready for a performance appraisal discussion with their supervisor, effectively managing their frame of mind during an evaluation, and the importance of asking questions and providing feedback and suggestions.
This training, facilitated by NMSU Training and Development, is facilitator led information and discussions with a great deal of interaction by participants. Benefits Orientation
During this 3 hour session, new employees will be provided with general information on policies and procedures, specific information on employee benefits and options, and other services available to regular NMSU employees. This session, facilitated by HR Services Benefits Services, will also provide the new employees with information on the standard probationary period, holiday schedule, annual leave and sick leave program, pay process for employees, NMSU retirement program, and the workers compensation program. FMLA Workshop
The Family Medical Leave Act is a law that gives employees the right to take leave for certain medical conditions without fear of being disciplined. Supervisors and employees each have different responsibilities related to FMLA. This 2 hour workshop, facilitated by HR Services Benefits Services, will help you understand the basics of the Family Medical Leave Act and University Policies and Procedures involved with family medical leave.

Leave Policies
This interactive 2 hour session, presented by HR Services Benefits Services, focuses on leave that a regular employee at NMSU is eligible for. It addresses leave policies such as annual and sick leave, leave for jury duty, excess leave policy, leave without pay, prorating annual and sick leave, the Family and Medical Leave Act, military and compassionate leave, leave for internal interviews or university services, and the sick leave bank. This interactive 1 hour session, presented by University Health, answers your questions on what to do if injured on the job. In addition to reports that need to be filed for medical vs. non-medical claims, this session addresses where to go for medical treatment, use of medical records, lost time while injured, insurance coverage, modified work assignments and return to work policies.
