Assertive Communication

Many times, when people are disrespectful with us, we think that setting boundaries, speaking up, and being assertive implies being rude or having bad manners. Being assertive means having the capability to express your feelings, opinions, thoughts and needs in an honest and respectful way. To be assertive you do not need to be aggressive or transgress the rights of others. Presented by Dr. Emilia O’Neill of the NMSU Employee Assistance Program department, this one hour presentation will discuss some strategies that can help you develop a feeling of self-efficacy and a sense that you can take control of different situations through positive assertiveness.
