Glossary for NMSU Training Central

Catalog: Learners can search the Catalog which lists offerings and courses.

Course: Represents a learning subject that can be delivered in a variety of forms. An offering is an item of a course which is available for ordering (for registration).

Evaluation: Any systematic method for gathering information about the impact and effectiveness of a learning offering. Results of the measurements can be used to improve the offering.

Facility: When you register for an offering, the Facility is the building and room.

Knowledge Base: Learners can search the Knowledge Base which stores content such as user manuals, reference documents, and helpful links.

Instructor-led training (ILT): Term used to describe the traditional classroom environment. Instructor-Led training occurs in a specific location during a specific period of time.

Job aid: Any simple tool that helps a worker do his or her job (for example, a flow chart to follow when answering a customer service call). Job aids generally provide quick reference information rather than in-depth training.

Knowledge Center: Allows users to search for resources in the Knowledge Base (which stores content such as user manuals, reference documents, and helpful links) and the Catalog (which lists offerings and courses). You do not have to be signed up for any offerings to search the Knowledge Center.

Learners: In NMSU Training Central, all users are learners. Learners can use the system to find and register for offerings. Offerings can include learning of all types such as instructor-led classes and web-based training.  In addition, learners can find a complete listing of courses that they have completed.  

Location: When you register for an offering, the Location is the campus such as NMSU - Las Cruces.

My Completed Courses: A page that allows the learner to view courses completed.

myNMSU User Name and Password (myNMSU account): Faculty, staff, and students at NMSU can use their myNMSU User Name and Password to log in to NMSU Training Central. If you need to setup a myNMSU account go to https://myaccount.nmsu.edu/activation/index.php

My Success Plan: A central plan that collects all of your plans and activities in one place.

Offerings: An item of a course which is available for ordering (for registration).

Private offerings: A learner can request a private offering of a course from the Catalog. A private offering is available only to a specific set of learners.

Public offerings: A learner can request a public offering of a course from the Catalog.

Training Central: A system that offers a unified catalog of professional development and training offerings. Offerings can include learning of all types such as instructor-led classes and Web-based training. 

Training request: A learner can request a public or private offering of a course that is already available in the Catalog.

Virtual Class: A Virtual Class is Web conference or other online learning opportunity that occurs at a specific time and is facilitated by a live instructor.

Web-based training (WBT): Delivery of educational content via a Web browser over the Internet. Web-based training often provides self-paced learning opportunities that can be completed online.
