“I appreciated being part of the ALTA inaugural class because it shows how supportive NMSU is to grow internal leadership. The interaction with my colleagues from across the NMSU system bolstered creativity and innovation as we worked collectively on our class project. The most important job of today’s leaders is the ability to solve complex problems. ALTA provided presenters and curriculum which exposed us to the root causes of problems and how to be more mindful and focused in offering effective solutions and training with our direct reports.” Roseanne

“Establishing personal relationships with peers from other campus departments has been very valuable. It has also been very beneficial to recognize that other campus departments have struggled with the same problems as we have in Facilities and Services. This has created an opportunity for us to share some solutions to common problems among ourselves.” Mark

Dr. Melissa Chavira
“Prior to my participation in the ALTA program, I struggled with confidence in my personal leadership ability. My goal in participating in ALTA was to strengthen my capacity to support the strategic mission of the university to transform lives through discovery. I believe that this vision creates strength in our campus community and has the capacity to make a positive impact for society as a whole. Some may believe that striving for societal change is an academic activity for faculty and students. However, I believe each administrative unit can work towards this unifying message and can contribute to this vision. I am pleased to report that the ALTA curriculum provided support for this vision through the research project we conducted, the discussions we had, and the presentations provided by campus leadership and experts in the field.” Melissa

Being a part of this academy has also reinforced the idea that a diverse group of people from different areas can work together and accomplish great things that benefit everyone equally.” Corey

Thank you to the program consultants for making this a rewarding experience for all of us.” Sharon
