Strategic & Essential Training (SET) Program

New Mexico State University is committed to providing a safe and harassment free environment for its students, employees and visitors, as well as equal employment opportunities in all areas of occupation. It is also committed to protecting the assets of the university, students, employees, and individuals connected with the university. A key component in achieving these commitments is ensuring that employees are trained on their responsibilities related to applicable state and federal codes, laws, and regulations.

In accordance with ARP 6.89, NMSU employees, regardless of hours worked or hiring type, must complete the Annual SET Certification as a condition of employment.

Annual SET Modules

The 2021 Annual SET Certification corresponds to the performance evaluation year (calendar year) and includes the following modules.

What’s New for 2021

** In an effort to meet the needs of NMSU LEADS 2025 and align with annual performance evaluations, NMSU’s compliance program is being transitioned to the Strategic & Essential Training (SET) program.  The timeline for the SET program Annual Certification is being realigned to the calendar year, beginning in January 2021.

** The SET annual and onboarding certifications will now include Affiliate employees, in accordance with ARP 2.55 – NMSU Recognition of Affiliated Individuals.  Affiliates are defined in Banner but are not paid by the university.  Due to their close relationship and affiliated status with the university, SET certification will be required beginning in January 2021.

** Enrollments will be staggered based on job type to align with the academic calendar, ease burden on managers monitoring employee’s progress, and reduce the Training Central system load.
