The O*NET Career Assessment Interest Profiler is a free, research-based tool developed by the U.S. Department of Labor to help individuals identify their work-related interests and connect them to potential careers. It’s part of the larger O*NET (Occupational Information Network) system, which provides detailed information about a wide range of occupations.
How It Works:
-
The Interest Profiler asks users to rate how much they would enjoy doing various types of work-related tasks.
-
Based on their responses, users receive a score across six Holland Codes (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional).
-
The profiler then suggests occupations that align with those interests, providing information about job outlook, education requirements, and necessary skills.
Benefits for NMSU Employees:
-
-
Career Development: Helps employees understand their personal interests and how those align with current or potential new roles within NMSU.
-
Professional Growth: Supports decision-making around training, certifications, or academic programs that align with desired career paths.
-
Workforce Planning: Supervisors and HR professionals can use it to support internal mobility and development planning.
-
Employee Engagement: Encourages individuals to explore meaningful career options, boosting motivation and job satisfaction.
